Visual Studio 2008 Support - Sunday, December 16, 2007

SqlAssist now supports Visual Studio 2008 as a beta release.  All features found in the VS 2005 version are active in the VS 2008 version.

If you have purchased a license for SqlAssist for VS 2005, it will also work with SqlAssist for VS 2008, though it will not automatically activate.  You will have to import your license into VS 2008 just as you did for VS 2005.

Final 2.0 Release - Wednesday, December 12, 2007

The 2.0 version is finally released.  The installer issues for Windows Vista and for users other than the user that installed the addin are now resolved.  Thanks for your patience.

Next up, planned for the 2.1 release, is support for Microsoft's 2008 products.

New Additions - Thursday, November 22, 2007

The latest beta release, build 223, is nearing completion for final release.  I've been away from the project, but am back now and should push this release out quickly.  That new build has two major enhancements...

  1. The installer now works on Windows Vista.
  2. SqlAssist can now prompt you for values to pass to undefined @variables in your script when you run the script.

Let me know if you have trouble with anything.  I'll try to fix any issues before the final release of 2.0.

Support for Visual Studio for DB Pros - Tuesday, May 08, 2007 - Tuesday, May 08, 2007

The latest beta version (build 202 as of this writing) now supports the Visual Studio version for DB Pros.  For those of you with a license for SqlAssist for VS already, this upgrade comes free of charge.  Just download the latest version and install.

Some other new features include:

  1. WAY better support for schemas (complete overhaul on schemas from the previous full release version).
  2. Auto-insert brackets and/or schemas while typing.
  3. Smart refactoring of variables, aliases and temp table names.
  4. On-the-fly Intellisense list filters.
  5. Many more small changes and updates to improve your SQL coding experience.

Support for Visual Studio for DB Pros - Thursday, March 15, 2007 - Thursday, March 15, 2007

This is currently in work.  When complete, it will be identical to the other versions of SqlAssist, except that it will nick the database connection from the DB Pro interface rather than asking the user for it directly.

Licenses for this version will be included with purchase of the Visual Studio license.  If you have previously purchase a license for SqlAssist for Visual Studio, your license will automatically activate the DB Pros version of SqlAssist.

More to come...

Final Release of SqlAssist for SSMS - Wednesday, February 07, 2007 - Wednesday, February 07, 2007

SqlAssist for SSMS is now available for purchase.  The beta went well, and most of the kinks are worked out.  For those of you who have not seen your requested changes make it into the app yet, know that we have them in our feature request database and are prioritizing them.

Thanks for your support, and enjoy the addin!

SSMS Version is FINALLY HERE! - Tuesday, December 12, 2006 - Tuesday, December 12, 2006

Sorry for the terrible delay, but SqlAssist for Sql Server Management Studio is finally available for download!  Currently it is in beta.  Expect it to be stable and to contain all of the features you already know from the Visual Studio versions.

The beta is fully functional but will time out after about a month.  New beta versions will be available before the previous beta times out.  Please offer feedback so we can make this product a winner in your toolbox.

SSMS Progress - Saturday, May 27, 2006 - Saturday, May 27, 2006

It has been quite some time since we release any news about our progress on support for SSMS.  It has been a difficult road to say the least, and we've learned quite a good bit about low level Windows APIs along the way.  The good news is, we have some very promising results.  I cannot say that we are almost done, but we've definitely jump and cleared some of the most difficult hurdles.  Thanks for your patience, those of you who have been anxiously awaiting this release.  We still have to get it ready for prime time, so please be patient a little longer.

The main thing I wanted to let everyone know is, we've not given up on support for SSMS... it is definitely well on the way and will be every bit as sexy as the current versions for Visual Studio.

Version 1.4 Released! - Monday, March 20, 2006 - Monday, March 20, 2006

We've finally reached our first release!  Thanks again to everyone who helped (and there are many of you).  The beta phase was a huge success, and as a direct result we have submitted build 1.4.160.0 as our final release.

Our focus now (as mentioned in the news post below) will be on making SqlAssist work inside of Sql Server Management Studio.  Please tell your friends and colleagues about us.

SQL Server Management Studio -- Support - Tuesday, March 14, 2006 - Tuesday, March 14, 2006

OK, we seem to have reached a point where we are receiving more feature requests than bug reports.  This is a good sign.  As a result, we have made a decision that will redirect our development focus for several weeks...

We are going to work on supporting SQL Server Management Studio.  The market is clearly interested in this, and adding new features to SqlAssist just seems like lower priority than supporting Microsoft's main SQL IDE.

The bad news is of course, while we work on supporting that IDE, adding other new features in SqlAssist will be put on hold for the time being.  Once we have support for SSMS in place, we will go back to improving the features and intellisense in the addin, and most features should be available in all IDEs that we support (VS2003, VS2005, and SSMS).

Much Feedback, THANKS! - Sunday, February 19, 2006 - Sunday, February 19, 2006

In the past few weeks we've had a surge of visitors, downloads, and of course, user feedback.  You have helped us find and fix numerous bugs and short-comings in recent days, so we just wanted to say thank you for your time and input.

As we move closer to reaching our first full release, we'll continue take your suggestions and desires to heart.  We have several features on the list planned for the future, and would be interested in knowing what will be most helpful to you.

Use the Forum or Contact pages for now to reach us.  We will add a future feature list page at some point to get your votes in on what features we should work on first.  And of course, as always, fixing bugs will always take precedence over adding features.

New Code Structure for VS.NET 2005 Support - Tuesday, December 06, 2005 - Tuesday, December 06, 2005
This took much longer than expected, but we have finally finished our restructuring of the code to support VS.NET 2005.  We've not finished testing on that IDE, so a version of SqlAssist is not released for that IDE is not released yet, but the current release for VS.NET 2003 is using the new code structure (i.e. you are testing it for us!).  We will put out the 2005 version very soon now.  Thanks for your patience meanwhile.
Web Server Moved - Tuesday, November 15, 2005 - Tuesday, December 06, 2005

Finally!  The site is officially at its new home.  There was one fatality in the move... the Forums module did not make it onto the new server.  We've had some issues with how that module plays with Windows Server permissions, so we will be addressing that when we get an opportunity.

Meanwhile, this new server should prove to be more responsive, and we should be accessible to everyone now that we are running on the standard HTTP port.

Support for Visual Studio .NET 2005 still in work - Monday, November 14, 2005 - Monday, November 14, 2005

The latest version of SqlAssist currently only supports Visual Studio .NET 2003.  We are diligently working only adding support for Visual Studio .NET 2005, and we are nearing release.  This has taken longer than we anticipated, and we apologize to those who have been anxiously awaiting this new version.

The hold up is due to our restructuring and preparing the code to be able to handle several different interfaces in the future, not just Visual Studio .NET.  We hope to be able to support integration into Query Analyzer and SQL Server Management Studio, though it will still be some time before those interfaces will be ready (support for VS.NET 2005 will be available much sooner).

Web Server Move - Monday, November 14, 2005 - Monday, November 14, 2005

Until now our site has been hosted on a server that is running on a non-standard port.  This has been a point of contention for some of our visitors.  We will be moving the site very soon, to a substantially faster server that is running on the standard port.

If you have added our site to your favorites, you will notice that it was added as www2.roundpolygons.com:55081.  After the move, this link may fail to function properly.  www.roundpolygons.com is the proper link.
